Symbols of the city

July 17, 1992 session of the City Council approved the descriptions and sketches of the new flag and coat of arms of Chernivtsi. Current national symbols of the city based on the historical tradition of the Austrian period. Author - graphic artist of Bukovina Orest Kryvoruchko recreated in the coat of arms a red shield with open gate in silver color, which symbolizes hospitality and openness of the city.
