Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics

Chernivtsi has a Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics which was established in 1999. It is located in the residential area of the city on 220, Holovna Street. The exhibition consists of two permanent sections and exhibitions that highlight the history of aviation and space exploration. Visitors have an opportunity to learn the history of aeronautics, from flying machines to modern creations of aircraft design. In the museum there are models of airplanes of the First and Second World Wars, record-breaking aircrafts and aircrafts of air aces.

Museum of Bukovynian Jews’ History and Culture

The museum was opened in the days of celebration of the 600th anniversary of Chernivtsi in October, 2008. The exhibition is arranged in the former Jewish House at 5, Theatre Square. The museum exposition covers the period of the late eighteenth century – mid-twentieth century. A considerable part of the exhibits is made up of ancient books, documents, postcards, items of religion and everyday life. Religious life of the Jews of Bukovyna has a significant place in the exhibition. The museum represents the Jewish cultural and political movements, literature and everyday life of the Jews, their occupations, preferences and spiritual needs.

Chernivtsi Regional Ethnographic Museum

Regional Ethnographic Museum was founded in 1863. Present museum (28, O. Kobylianska Street) is situated in the two-storey building of classicist style, which belonged to the Orthodox religious fund. Beginning of the museum establishment took place in Austrian age, when lovers of antiquity collected the first museum exhibits.

Regional State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life (Skansen)

Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life was founded in 1977. It is located on the slopes of a large ravine in Moskovska Olimpiada Street. More than three dozens of wooden buildings are represented in the alfresco museum: two-layer windmills from the village of Rukshyn of Khotyn district and village Shyshkivtsi of Novoselytsya district, smithy, a wooden St. Nicholas’ church of so-called house-type from the village of Drachyntsi of Kitsman district, logged framed steeple from the village of Berehomet. The icons of “Bukovynian primitive” are displayed inside the temple, also a collection of sacred paintings is exhibited. Typical buildings of various segments of population of old Bukovyna are also situated here.

Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum

Art Museum (10, Central Square) was established in 1988; it is located in the building of former Savings Bank (1901), which is one of the best examples of the Viennese Secession – a monument of national importance. The core of the museum's collection consists of items collected by Chernivtsi Ethnographic Museum. Replenishment of collections took place during research expeditions, as well as from charitable gifts of individual artists and patrons. Funds enumerate more than 10 thousand exhibits; most of them are represented in the permanent display.
