Pasport Control
Visitors may only enter or leave Ukraine through
official passport control points, where their passports
and visas will be checked by an immigration officer. The
Ukrainian Immigration Office is also authorized to check
all vehicles and cargo wishing to cross the Ukrainian
border.
Visas
Visas to enter Ukraine can be obtained from the
Consulate of Ukraine in the visitor’s country of
residence. Residents of countries that have no
established consular relationship with Ukraine can
obtain a visa in a country that has a Ukrainian
Consulate and has a special agreement to issue Ukrainian
visas to non –residents.
Customs control
Customs control People entering or leaving Ukraine must
declare all jewelry, valuables and precious metal items
that they have under them by completing a Custom’s
Declaration Form, available at all customs check points.
The declaration forms are available in English, German
and French languages.
Export of goods
Goods purchased in Ukraine up to a total value of
100.000 Euros may be exported tax free. However, export
of artifacts or items considered to be of cultural or
historical value such as paintings, sculptures, water-colures,
prints, miniatures, porcelain, cut-glass, ceramics,
precious metals or manuscripts or any other item having
particular artistic, historical or cultural value is
only permitted on presentation of a certificate from the
Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Arts allowing such
goods to be taken out the country.
Language
The official language of Ukraine is Ukrainian. Most
population of the region speak Russian. In case your
vacation is organized by a tourist agency, the
interpreter’s
services could be included.
Currency
The national currency of Ukraine is Hryvnia. Currency
exchange points where one may convert USD, EURO are
located almost in all towns. For currency rate, please,

Communication
The rooms of the most hotels are equipped with telephone
connection. Restaurants, cafes, hotel halls, central
streets of the cities are equipped with automatic
telephones, which are used by means of a telephone card
bought at the hotel or the post office. For inter-city
connection within Ukraine you have to dial "8", then a
city
code. For international connection you have to dial "8",
then "10" and a country code.
International telephone code of Ukraine is +380. The
most part of Ukraine is covered with a mobile connection.
The biggest operators of mobile communication are ÌÒÑ
and Kyivstar GSM.
Local time
European Mean Time minus one hour. Daylight savings time
is observed from the first Sunday of April to the last
Sunday in October.

Easter – according to the Orthodox calendar;

Electricity
Voltage in the electric mains is 220 V with a frequency
50 Hz.
Driving
There is a right-side traffic. The international driving
license is valid. Settlements signs are mostly in
Ukrainian.
You can buy the maps of motor roads at the service
stations. Speed restriction: in settlements – up to 60
km/hour, out of them – up to 80 km/hour, for other
vehicles on other roads – up to 90 km/hour, on motorways
–
up to 110 – 130 km/hour. Alcohol content in blood is
0,0%.
Prices for petrol at service stations in Ukraine can
vary within 10%. Average price for petrol 95–98 varies
around
0,60-0,80$.
National cuisine and catering
Restaurants and numerous cafes will offer you
traditional dishes of the Ukrainian, Bukovynian and
Hutsul cuisine
as well as wide choice of the European dishes. The
average prices for meals: breakfast – $3, lunch, dinner
or
supper – $4-5.
Beverages
In restaurants and cafes you will be offered a wide
range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks made in
Ukraine
and abroad. Average prices are: vodka – 2-3 $, cognac –
5-6 $, wine – 3-4 $, beer – 0,50$, coca-cola – 0,50$,
mineral water – 0,30$. |
